(To the Editor.) Sir, — In Monday's issue of your paper a letter, written by no less a person than Mr. George Shalfoon, comes to my notice. In' his letter, Mr. Shalfoon attributes to me eertain statements passed at a recent county council meeting. I am surprised that such an experienced Government representative. who advises others to verify their statements, does not apply his wisdom and knowledge to his own case. Should Mr. Shalfoon have taken the trouble to peruse the minutes of the last county council meeting he would have found that, instead of an inaxperienced person like myself, the author of the statements mentioned is a eouncillor who stands on a higher pedestal among the Maoris than ever Mr. Shalfoon can hope to mount. — I am, etc.,
