Auckland, Tuesday. Many sporting personalities were in anticipation of the hearing of a present at the Supreme Court to-day, case in which Leonard H. Watson, jockey, sued the Auckland District Committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference for £1000 damages. The action was the sequel to the disqualification for life. of Watson after an inquiry into the running of ; the Buckland Hack Handicap, at Pukekohe, on March 7, 1931. Plaintiff had claimed that the disqualification was invalid and should be rescinded. The case had been set down for hearing this morning before Mr. Justice Smith. By ten o'clock all the principal parties were present. Counsel were, Mr. V. R. Meredith, for plaintiff, and Mr. Terry for defendants. They, with many witnesses, waited for an hour and a half, during which time a conference was held between the parties. Finally it vvas announced that it had been arranged to submit the whole matter to an appeal committee of the Racing Conference, all technicalities being waived.
