WAIOTAHI BRANCH REPORTS " A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

The annual meeting of the Waiotahi Women's Institute was held in the Waiotahi hall recently. There was a large attendance of members to whom the report and balance sheet was presented by the secretary, Mrs. E. Fryer. The president (Mrs. L. Looney), I congratulated the institute on a pleasant and hospitable year — the membership had increased to 41 and great interest had been shown in institute affairs. The following are the results of the year's activities : — Competition poihts, Miss Abbott, first; Mrs. Looney and Mrs. King, second! Honours- Board, Mrs. Toone, 1; Mrs. Burke, 2. Five institute babies were each presented with a mug and a soft toy. The officers for the incoming year were elected as follows: — President, Mrs. Jeffery; secretary, Mrs. Gibbs; committee, Mesdames Jeffery, Grant, Gibbs, Marx, King, Fryer, Rau, Misses Abbot and J. Martin; croquet, Mesdames Martin, Toone, Eason, L. Looney; library, Mesdames Malcolm, Farmer, Wilson, McKinnon. After the eleetion of the new executive, the retiring president was presented with a beautiful bowl and the secretary with a rose as a token of the esteem in which they are held by the members. An interesting demonstration of lamp shade making was given by Mrs. Looney, after which afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames White, R. Du Pontet and Eason.
