EEL EATS SNAKE

ACCIDENT WHEN DXNING An eel caught by Mr. T. Govett in a stream running through his land at Stogursey, near Bridgwater, Somerset, England, had the tail of a grass snake sticking out of its mouth. It was found that the eel, which was 2ft 7in long, had swallowed the snake head first. The snake was only four inches shorter than the eel. "It is unusual, but not unprecedented, for an 'eel to swallow a snake only a few inches smaller than itself," a Zoo official explained. "The eel probably saw the snake eating some tit-bit, and ventured on the land to join it. It would do this not only on account of hunger, but also for companionship. "The el would eat on and on, not noticing when the morsel ended and the snake began. "Sometimes two snakes attack the same piece of food at the Zoo, and continue until the snake with the bigger head begins to devour his fellowdiner. Then we have to hurry along and separate them."
