GLIDER CRASHES
AUCKLAND AVIATOR CAUGHT BY GUSTY SIDE , WIND : ATTEMPT ON RECORD Auckland, Sunday. When attempting to establish a long* distance* g'liding record at Muriwai Beach, a well known 'Auckland glider, Mr. H. G. Pointon," a railway employee of Otahuhu, crashed** on the sand hills and received' a fraetured leg arid cuts on the face.* The maehine, which was an improved desigii, was badly smashed. ■■■ With Other members of the club, Mr. Pointon had been continuingf regular week-end trials on the ex-ten-sive sand dunes. A strong, but gusty wind was blowing, and after several good flights, Mr. Pointon was caught by a side gust when "at a height ,*of 60 feet and the machine side stepped.
