SCOUT NEWS

"Scouter.")

rotorua No 2 troop.

(Notes by

Th'e troop commenced its activities for the new year in true scouf style on Friday evening last, when an even roll met the . Sc'outmaster, and the Troop-leader for further instructions. Most of the evening's programme was devoted to campcraft and all patrols efficiently displayed useful hints taught them by their leaders. Inter-p'atrol competitions on "now to make a sleeping-bag from a sack and two blankets," how to bind a fractured leg, apd how to make a stretcher," went to the Kotare and Lion patrols, under _,eaders P. Farren and M. Hodge. A special feature of the evening was the introduction of patrol games. This encourages th'e patrol system and gives the leader a full sense of his many responsibilities. For a first attsmpt, the response was satisfactory. After playing a troop game, the troop was dismissed by the troopleader. Changes in the troops' leadership are: — Patrol-leadsr F. Clubb to Troop-leader, and Patrol-leader Murray to Patrol-leader Cuckoo. Next week, l will write various articles on the second-class tests and opportunity should be found by every leader to rea dthese to his boys.
