ROYAL VISITOR WINS THE HURDLES; LIMEEN'S MEMORIAL GOLDEN WlNGS WINS EPSOM

Auckland, Monday. Ideal weather favoured the second and concluding day of the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting at Ellerslie to-day. There was a good attendance for an off day and the course was again in excellent order. Following are the results: — NORMANBY HANDICAP Of £200; 1 mile. 1 — CARFEX, 8.8 (K. Voitre) 1 3 — J ONATHAN, 8.12 (R. McTavish) 2 7 — CATCH-'EM, 7.0 (G. Jones) 3 Also started: 10 Princess Bede, 9.2 (Tinker), 5 Aesculus, 7.11, car. 7.12 (Keesing) ; 6 Holly Lu, 7.10, car 7.12 (Anderson) ; 9 Bugle Call, 7.10, car. 7.7 (McCrae) ; 4 Delrain, 7.9 (Atkins) ; 2 Good Run, 7.0 (Wiggins) ; 8 Ruling ICing, 7.7 (Parsons) ; 13 Consort, 7.0 (Forsyth) ; 14 Deftiylus, 7.0, car. 7.2 (Cammick) ; 15 Jewelled Girdle, 7.0, car. 7.8 (Fergus) ; 12 Master Norval, 7.0, car. 7.5| (Stewart) ; 11 Mahkill, 7.0, car. 7.2 (H. Gilmer) . When they settled down Holly Lu and Delrain had charge from Bugle Call, Good Run, Princess Bede, Carfex, Jonathan, Catch 'em, and Jewelled Girdle. There was no change in the leaders across the top, Holly Lu and Delrain still being the pilots at the straight entrance, where Carfex, Good Run, Bugle Call, Jonathan, Catch 'em, and Master Norval were in that order of the others. In the run home Jonathan challenged Carfex, but the latter won by a length, with Catch 'em two lengths further away third. Holly Lu was fourth and then came Delrain, Bugle Call, Good Run, Aesculus and Princess Bede. Time, 1.39. MANUKAU HURDLE RACE Of £300; 2 miles. 1— ROYAL VISITOR, 9.10 (J. McRae) 1 3— PATUTAHI, 9.9 (D. J. Burgess) 2 2— CLAREMORE, 10.3 (L. Dulieu) 3 Also started: 4 Lucess, 10.12 (Foster) ; 5 Luminary, 10.12 (Rennie) ; 6 Advance Camp, 10.6 (Mcllroy). Passing the stands after jumping three fences Claremore and Patutahi were together in front, with Royal Visitor and Luminary on terms followed by Lucess and Advance Camp. Along the back Patutahi and Claremore were still setting the pace with Royal Visitor, Lucess and Luminary as named and Advance Camp well back. Patutahi and Claremore came at the last fence together with Royal Visitor handy. Once over Royal Visitor put in his claim and went on to win by one and a-half lengths from Patutahi, who beat Claremore by four lengths. Lucess was fourth, with a gap back to Luminary and Advance Camp some distance away. Time, 3.43 3-5. EPSOM HANDICAP. Of £300; 6 furlongs. 2— GOLDEN WINGS, 9.10, car. 9.5 (J. Jones) 1 7— SOLOIST, 7.0, car. 7.4 (H. Wiggins) 2 3— GREEK GOLD, 7.11 (E. Keesing) 3 Also started: 6 Tradesman, 9.2 (Mclnally) ; 1 Tea Trader, 8.6 (Voitre) ; 4 Gay Lap, 8.1 (McTavish) ; 5 Gold Day, 7.8 (Atkins) ; 9 Tetrarchate, 7.0, car. 7.11 (Cammick) ; 8 Sister Em, 7.0, car. 7.2 (Faulkner) ; 10 Valuation, 7.0 (Forsyth). Golden Wings began smartly from the inside position showing the way across the top to Greek Gold, Tea Trader, Gay Lap, Tetrarchate, Tradesman, Soloist, Sister Em, Gold Day and Valuation, the last named being slow to move. Golden Wings turned for home with Greek Gold and Tea Trader handy, followed by Gay Lap, Tetrarchate, Tradesman, Gold Day and Soloist. Nothing had a chance with Golden Wings, who scored by one and a-half lengths. Soloist came with a strong run to get second place. Greek Gold being third half a length away. Gay Lap was fourth, with Gold Day, Tea Trader, Tradesman, Valuation, Tetrarchate and Sister Em in that order. Time, 1.13. KING EDWARD MEMORIAL HANDICAP Of £500; 1J miles. 10— LIMEEN, 7.0 (R. Horne) 1 2— SPEEDMINT, 7.11 (K. Voitre) 2 4— HUNTING CRY, 9.9 (A. Tinker) 3 Also started: 6 Antique, 9.11 (Keesing) ; 1 View Halloo, 8.12 (Barry) ; 11 Te Hoia, 8.0 (E. Manson) ; 9 Gibraltar, 7.13 (Anderson) ; 12 Valroe, 7.13 (McTavish) ; 7 Lord Val, 7.11 (Parsons) ; 3 Great Emblem, 7.il (Wiggins) ; 8 Chrom— adyne, 7.8 (Murray) ; 5 Tigerism, 7.3 car. 7.7 (Atkins) ; 13 Gay Cockade, 7.2, car. 7.6 (R. McRae) ; 15 Flying Prince, 7.0 (Forsyth) ; 14 Psychologist, 7.0 (G. Jones). Going out of the straight Chromadyne, Lord Val, Great Emblem and View Halloo were the most prominent. Great Emblem and Flying Prince were together in the lead along the back followed by Chromadyne, View Halloo, Speedmint, Lord Val, Hunting Cry, Psychologist, Valroe, Tigerism, Limeen, Antique and Gibraltar. There was little between Great Emblem, Flying Prince and Chromadyne half a mile from home, where Hunting Cry, Speedmint, Lord Val and Limeen were the most prominent of the others. The order of the leaders into the straight was Hunting Cry, Great Emblem, Flying Prince, Chromadyne, Lord Val, Speedmint and Limeen. Limeen finJshed strongly to win by half a length from Speedmint, who was a neck in front of Hunting Cry, Chromadyne was fourth, with Antique, Lord Val, Psychologist, Tigerism, Great Emblem, Flying Prince, View Halloo and Gay Cockade in that order. The sectional times were: Two furlongs, 27 sec; 3 furlongs, 39 2-5s; 4 furlongs, 51 3-5s; 5 ftniongs, 1.4; 6 furlongs, 1.16; 7 furlongs, 1.28 4-5s; the full distance, 2.7. ONEHUNGA STEEPLECHASE Of £200; about three miles. 3 — ABSENT, 9.13 (D. Craddock) 1 1 — NEIL, 10.12 (J. McRae) ...... 2
4— MASHOOR, 9.13 (P. Mcllroy) r. 3 Also started: 2 John Bull, 9.8 (Rennie) ; 5 Carlaris, 9-.0, car. 9.2 (Thompson) . The field was bunched over the opening round with Mashoor and John Bull showing the way. After clearing the stand double Mashoor was about a length in front of John Bull, with Neil, Carlaris and Absent all handy. Absent moved up fast along the back and had charge up the hill the last time from Mashoor, Neil and Carlaris, John Bull having pulled up. Absent came into the straight in front of Mashoor and Neil and went on to win by three lengths from Neil, with Mashoor four lengths further off. Carlaris was fourth. Time, 6.3. MUSKET STAKES. Of £250; 5 furs; two-year-olds. 1 — MIDIAN, 8.5 (J.-Barry) ...... 1 4— GAY SHEILA, 8.0 (Manson) 2 5— GAY SETON, 8.0 (Keesing) 3 Also started: 2 Wait and See, 8.1; 7 My Money, 3 Alignment, 8 Deputy Ruler, 10 Weatherwise, 6 Spiral, 8 Enjoyment. Midian stayed on nicely to win from Gay Sheila, which came up from fifth place. Wait and See dropped at the distance. Alignment was fourth. Won by a length; 1| lengths. Time 1.0 4-5. HOBSON HANDICAP Of £200; 7 fur. 5— MOONFLEET ,7.3 (H. Wiggins) 1 4— LORD AINTREE, 8.7 (G. Jenkins) 2 8— WOODFUL, 8.6 (Parsons) 3 Scratched: Royal Gallant. Won by a length; one and a-quarter between second and third. Time, 1.22 2-5. Lord Aintree was the early leader from Black Songster, Karangapai, Moonfleet, Puss Moth and' Woodfull, but soon after Puss Moth got knocked right back. Lord Aintree and Prolyxo were on even terms on the entrance to the straight, this pair being clear of Moonfleet, Woodfull, Gay Marigold, Black Songster and Lucidus. Over the last furlong Moonfleet challenged Lord Aintree and beat him \ by a length. There was a gap of one and a-quarter lengths back to Woodfull. Gay Marigold and Prolyxo were right up next ahead of Roman Mascot, Booklaw, Bell Topper and Palace. LIVERPOOL HANDICAP Of £300 ;,1 mile. 8— KING'S ARCHER, 9.0 (L. Dulieu) 1 1 — GOLD TRAIL, 8.12 (P. Atkins) 2 4— IIIGH COMEDY, 8.5 (K. Voitre) 3 All started. Won by a neck; threequarters. Time, 1.39. King's Archer, at very long odds, won the concluding event, drawing the odds on favourite, Gold Trail, in handsome fashion. Lenore made the running with King's Archer handy and they were the leaders to the home bend, with Baroscope, High Comedy, tmperial Prince, Huntingdon and Gold Trail following, the favourite being very wide out. King's Archer maintained his advantage to win by a neck from Gold Trail, who finished very fast. High Comedy was close up third, Cynthia N., Pomp, Huntingdon and Lenore next. The weather was fine, the going good and the attendance fair. The amount of £20,939 was put through the machine as against £25,234 for the second day last year, a decrease of £4295 for the day. The total for „he meeting was £46,848 10s as against £59,049, a decrease on the meeting of £7200 10s.
