PROPOSED BUILDING LIVELY DISCUSSION ENSUES' ON DETAILS AND PLANS GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING A prolonged discussion on the proposed size and features of the show building to be ereeted by the Rotorua Agricultural and Pastoral Association took place at a general committee meeting of the association held last evening. At the conclusion of the: discussion, a building committee had been set up to consider plans for the: building and arrange for the clear-' ance of the site. The president, Mr. H. P. Ford, occupied the chair. The matter was introduced -by a suggestion from Mr. S. J; Hale that a site for the proposed building should be decided upon and that work be immediately commenced in elearing it in readiness for the commencement of building operations. ' • ' After a motion that the -associa.tion's section in Fenton Street he utilised, had been passed, Mr.*G. Steele said that to allow for further" expansion at a later date, he- considered' that the building should be ereeted- onthe Amohau Street frontage,- leavingthe Fenton Street frontage available for further additions if decided upon* at a later date. After some discussion in which Mr. E. La Trobe Hill pointed out that the " limited amount of £3000 to cover the total cost would pfeclude* thef ereetion of a building having architectural features, the question was disposed of by a motion of Mr. A. L.: Keith that a suitable site on the section, with a frontage to Fenton Streetbe ehoSen and that the site-be clear ed' it an . :early date. • • - .
The advisability of constitutmg a building committee was then eonsid-' ered, the president suggesting thatbefore doing so a general discussion on the features of the building should ensue and the committee peruse the* architect's report on a suggestedbuilding or the adaption of the -Syl-; vana Cabaret made last June. • Features o£ Building Objection to the perusal of this report was "made by a section of the meeting and Mr. E. T. Johnson smoved that if possible the building be constructed in concrete, that where possible local material be utilised and that a huilding committee of five consider further details. In support of his motion he said that concrete building costs in Rotorua were eheaper than in any other part of the Dominion, as plenty of material was available locally. The president considered that the previous report of the . architect,. which set the cost at £2400, should. be read, and be was supported in this1 view by Mr. H. W. Beale, who considered that the present committee should be in possession of the information which had been fully consid:ered by the previous committee. An amendment by the president that the architect's report to the previous committee he perused with a view to adopting that seheme as a basis, resulted in the unusual position of both the amendment and the motion being agreed to, and "the report was then read by the secretary. During considerable cross discussions, Mr. Hale again appealed to the committee to decide the details of the building, and Mr. H. M. Martin moved that a building committee of five members be constituted ahd asked to bring down a report and plans of a building in concrete or other materials, the total finished cost of which was to be within the limit of £3000 provided. The motion was carried and a building committee consisting of Messrs H. M. Martin, G. Steele,S. J. Hale, E. T. Johnson and J. M. Roberts set np.
