Fined for Assault ■ A young Maori, charged with assaulting the licehsee of a public house was yesterday fined £5 by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M. The Magistrate remarked that he regarded these assults seriously as a licensee had to keep order on his premises. ^ Overloading Charged with carrying a load of 4h tons on the Atiamuri Road and with carrying a load in excess of his license (Rueben Gordon was fined £2 on the first and £1 on the second charge by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday. The costs were 10/- in each case, Cambridge Golfers' Visit During the week-end a party of golfers from the Cambridge club visited the Arikikapakapa Course and played Rotorua club members in a series of matches. After a very enjoyable day's play Rotorua' were the winners by a comfortable margin. Maintenance Cases Albert Harold ICiripatea, who was in arrears with his maintenance payments was yesterday ordered by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., to pay £6. arrears and costs 57-, the warfant to be suspended for 14 days. Johri Thomas Deane, also in arrears :'with his payments, was ordered to pay £12 arrears forthwith and 7/6 a week for each of two children. New Grass Plots The areas which have been grassecf and cultivated in Pererika Street are looking particularly well just now. The laying out -of these plots has greatly improved the appearance of that loeality. Malfroy Road Path Worlcmen are at present preparing Malfroy Road for the laying of a concreijp footpath from Hampson's' corner to James Street. This improyement is being keenly looked forward to. Unlucky Expedition Edward Irving Lowe appeared before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday on eight charges of breaebes of the Arms Act. The evidence went to show that Lowe organised a deerstalking expedition and borrowecf. rifies to equip the' party. Some of the rifies were the property of the Defence Department and this particular phase of the case will be dealt with by a military tribunal. On the eight charges of obtaining possession and delivery of the rifies Lowe 'was convicted and ordered to pay costs only, which amounted to 10/- in each case. Richard John Collett, F. A. D. Countenay, R. L. Arden and J. C. McAlees charged with obtaining the rifies were fined 10/- and 10/- costs each. The charges against Harry and Albert Ingram were left to the military tribunal. Two Men Burned Two young Maoris, David and J oseph Bristoe, employed on the Parekarangi Block, were admitted to the King George "V Hospital at 2 o'clock yesterday morning suffering from painful burns to their hands and faces. It appears that their tent caught on fire, but details of the oeeurrence are meagre. Their condition is reported to be satisfactory. Debt Cases Before Mr. S. L. Paterson, *S.M., yesterday morning orders were made in the following jndgment summonses: K. Altherr v. H. R. Vercoe, £35 5/6 and costs £1 11/6, payment to be made at the rate of £2 per month. Hutchinson Bros. v. J. E. Smith, £10 12/2 and costs 15/6, payment at th'e rate of £2 per month. Judgment by default was given in the following ordinary debt claims: David Martin v. G. L. Cann, £2 8/- and costs £1; Rotorua Hardware and Plumbing Co. v. B. Green, £2 5/- and costs £1 3/6; T. V. Humphrey v. Lawrence Burton, £70 14/10 and costs £4 17/-. Ladies!
