Bruee's mission to London was partly concerned with delicate questions of high policy covering Aqstralia's part in a scheme of- Empire defence SPd responsibility for aefence in the Pacific. When Mr. Bruce returns to Australia ih Februafy, it niaiy be found that the Goinmonw^ealth 'will be looked to hy other Empire countries for a plan of defence which will stagger some of those concerned at the stage "of militaf y shortages.
