Injured Horse Shot A party travelling on the Te Ngae Road yesterday afternoon came upon a horse with a broken leg. The indications y/ere that the animal had been struclc by a motor car. It so happened that the party had a rifle with them and the horse was shot and a report made to the police on arrival in town. Population Increases A return of the estimated population of the Dominion on Septeniber 30 last, published in the latest Gazette, shows the total to be £1,589,696, comprising 810,963 males and 778,733 females. The total includes 62,629 persons resident in the Cook and Tokelau Islands and mandated territory of Western Samoa. For the quarter ended September 30, an inerease of 2146 is recorded. Child Scalded Painful scalds were received by a baby aged nine months, the child of Mrs. D. Lang, Lake Road, as the result of it upsetting boiling water over itself on Saturday afternoon. The child, which was admitted to the King George V. Hospital was reported last evening to he making satfaetory progress: Service Station Entered During Friday night Duffy's Service Station on the Rotorua-Ngongo-taha Road Was broken into and about £1 in silver stolen from the till. Mr. Duffy, who nsually sleeps on the premises was away from the station for some hours and on returning found that holes had been hored in the door, the premises entered and the sum already mentioned stolen.
