RANGITAIKI NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondant.)

RECORD SEASON PROMISED FROM ABUNDANCE OF GRASS

The present season. is a record one for f eed, and cows are reported to be milking exeeptionally well. The Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company will establish another record this year. The output of this factory now ranks with that of any of New Zealand's leading butter factories. Onepu Block The Onepu Block recently opened for selection by the Lands Department now presents a wonderful sight. Settlers find difficulty, in coping with the flush of feed. One tenant is reported to be milking 70 cows already. This is more remarkable as, according to the local farmers, it is one of the poorest sections in the block. This speaks well for the carrying capacity of the remainder of the sections and the future success of the Onepu block for dairying. White Cabbage Rutterfly This pest has been occasionally seen in the district ahd several have been caught. Flower gardens are favourite haunts of these insects. They may be seen alighting on a flower in search of nectar. They are very1 active and never stay long in any one plaee. Thornton Domain The Whakatane County Couneil has now completed turfing the road through the sandhills giving access to the Thornton Domain and beach and cars can now approach the domain. This popular baching place situated at the mouth of the Rangitaiki river, is largely patronised by Whakatane and Rangitaiki residents. The completion of this road will be greatly appreciated.
