IMPQRTANT CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS ARBITRATION AMENDMENTS RESISTING WAGES CUTS

Auckland, Thursday. Foity delegates, representing 50 unions affiliated to the Allianee of Labour, .>or the Trades and. Labour Couneil and the Unemployed Assoc[iation, met in eonferen.ee to-day to diseuss the situation eaused by —the amendments made last session to the Arbitration Act. • . In a c-ireular convening. the meeting it was stated- that some * unions in tlie Conciliation ■ Couneil had agreed to redu6ed wages, longer hours, and loss of conditions that had taken years to gain. In order -to avoid' this it was essential that there should be a complete understanding for the future. The conference would also diseuss ways of 'improving industrial organisations. . - The conference, which will last two days, decided to set up a committee to eo-operate with all unions for the purpose of resisting the wagereducing policy of the Employers' Fe'deration.
