Tikitere.
One taking the Six Lakes Trip should not miss the labyrinth of \ multi-coloured pools of water and S mud with varying levels and degrees t of thermal activity at Tikitere. It is 1 practically speaking, the Playground | of Man's Arch-enemy, for here are | revealed his manifold moods of en- | ergetic turbulence, rage and violence 1 in marked contrast to his moods of 6 placid innoncence and tranquility as | evideneed by pools of mud and water | eontiguous to each other. I . One enters the Playground through | Hell's Gate where under the guidance | of "The Captain," (Late Chief Guide at Wairakei), one sees the Devil's Cauldron, The Sulphur Bath, The Inferno, The Devil's Frying Pan, Satan's Porridge Pot, alongside of which one has a glimpse of the Garden of Eden with the Ladies' Pool, separated from it by Satan's Glory, Satan's Boiling Kettle and | of His Trough of Dough. | The tremendous forces underground are so powerful as to cause the Earth to tremble and vibrate and even huge masses of molten rocks to oscillate, seemingly imbue-d with rage and resentment at being so rudely disturbed. Indications of a heavy bush overwhelmed in prehistoric times are seen in abundance.
