WOMAN'S CLAIMS

ORIGIN OF RECIPROCAL TRADE ' SCHEME ADOPTED AT OTTAWA. A Bradford woman claims that she originated the scheme of Empire reciprocal trade that was adopted by the Ottawa Conference. She is Miss Ada Gummersall, of the Children's Home, Bradford. "I wrote at the time of the Imperial Conference in 1930 to Mr. Philip Snowden, as he was then, and also to Mr. Ramsay MacDonald and Mr. Baldwin," Miss Gummersall says. "The scheme I submitted to them was identical with that which has been put into operation.

"I received ordinary acknowledgments from the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Mr. Baldwin, in his reply, stated that he had passed my letter on to the Board of Trade. "Now that the scheme has been adopted I think that I ought to reeeive some acknowledgment. To my mind, the whole thing seems simple. It is just like running a home, only on a larger scale. I am just a hard-work-ing woman acting as foster-mother to eight children."
