The Government meteorolonlst issued the following weather report and forecast last niffht: — J • General situation: Barometers remain fairly high over northern New Zealand, whiie a series of intense westrly depressions ar moving over the South lsland. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong, north-westerly to westerly, still of gale force south of New Plymouth and ^ Napier, backing to south-westerly in " the south after about 24 hours. Weather: Cloudy and unsfttled in western districts with rain at Timaru, some h'eavy fails in Westland; elsewhere still mainly fair and warm. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermpmeter, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Governmeflt Observatioh Sta« tion by the Rotorua Toprlst pepar|ment for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterdlay.
