CAUSED BY TOO MUCH OIL. ' Over-lubrication ofthe fan often results in the belt becoming coated with oil, causing it to slip. ' Wash the' belt thoroughly in soap -and water or treat it to a belt dressing. A- slipping belt can often be remedied by sprmkliiig a little powdered resin on it; ordinary talcum powder has the same effect. ' A very small amount of beltslipping compound smeared on the pulley surfaces of the ' fan belt will stop it from slipping. .This compound is used in factories- to ensPre proper gripping of the pulley by the belt. A slipping fan - belt can often be matle to'give service-hy reversing it; The ncw clean surface will gripj the pull'ays with the right tePsion.' It is not always as easy to adjust the fan) as to take up slackness. Most fans have two adjustments; one vertical for tension, the other horizontal for alignment. If care is not taken in makirig the adjustments the belt is liab'le to slip off the pulley, causing a lot of annoyance'.
