OFFICIAL OPENING OF CITIZENS' BOWLING CLUB

The opening of the Opotiki Citizens' Bowling Club took place on J Saturday afternoon. The president, Mr. H. Briggs, extended a hearty welcome to a large number of members and visiting bow'lers, among whom were Mr. W, J. Scott, president of the Opotiki Club, and Mr. J. Rea, president of the Taneatua Club. Mr. Briggs congratulated the greenkeeper, Mr. Smith, on having the green in such good condition and predicted a successful season. The jack was then thrown by Mrs. Briggs and the president declared the green open for the season, after which games were started. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the Citizens' Croquet Club. Unfortunately rain started soon after the tea adjournment and stopped the play. Mr. Rea, president of the Taneatua' Club, made a happy little speech thanking the club members for their hospitality and assuring them of a . hearty welcome to any members visiting Taneatua. Webbe, Thomas (s), 10 drew with Merry, Brae, Kidd, McPherson (s), 10. O'Sullivan, Smith, A. Webbe, Morton (s), 10 beat Pattle, Simmonds, Black, Shaw (s), 7. J. Moody, Reece, Fisher, Scott (s) , 6 beat Stevens, Hathaway, G. Moody, Downes (s), 5.
