AUCKLAND MEETING

DIRECT MORNING WINS LABOUR DAY HANDICAP REMUERA TO BRENT ZOLOCK (Spscial to "Post") Auckland, Saturday. Tha weather was showery at times for the concluding day at Alexandra Park, Auckland, on Saturday of the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting. The going was not at all bad, being. nothing worse than holding. The tlireatening weather kept the attendance down, but still it Was better than on the previous Saturday. The totalisator handled £19,883£, niaking £37,833 i for the meeting, a decrease of £52103,. Made Aiuends Nell Volo, despite her first day's . failure, was backed down to odds on again in the Greenlane Handicap, and she duly prevailed. But half a mile from home she was seeond to last, with Grand Triumph well clear of Manna's Son. Then the leader got up . and Manna's Son f ollowed . suit, and in a furlong the favourite was in the firing line. Nell Volo subsequently . won by a length' and a half from Win Huon, who also finished well. Hue Coronado was just cut out of third place, while Manna's Son and Grand Triumph followed. Manna's Son is one to watch. A Good Price With a change of drivers, Nellota gave an improved display to win the Newmarket Handicap in impressive fashion, for which the three-year-old waq at a fine price. She began brilliantly and was then taken in behind Stormy Maelc and Fisher when these backmarkers took up the running. Eisher was done with at the turn and Nellota quickly settled Stormy Mack to win very nicely indeed. Worthy Chief was finishing on, and best of ■ • the others wero Raider (not well driven), Our Summer and Cogent. Lislea was off his feed and was never travelling lilce a winner at any part. Raider and Our Summer, also Worthy Chi'ef, shaped as if they may soon do better, although Our Summer is un- • reliable at the barrier.

Nothing to Spare Although Direct Morning won the Labour Day Handicap and the nice tropliy that went with it, he had nothing to spare from Brentlight, both baing driven right out and the odds on favourite prevailing by a neek. He was in front quickly and stayed there, the pace appearing to be slow in the early part. Tkis pair had ihe finish to them.-elvas and they wars well clear of I" .svt Flight, who ag.iin lofct n lit 1 ?** gr./und at th .hani. 1'eter Pirau; alho losi r.round at the barrier through failiag to pace ofi", but he went a grand race to finish fourth. Dan Direct went better than for some time and Anon also displayed a bit of dash. Direct Morning is now going to be on a hard nmrk, but he might get just anoti.er one. Brentlight is one to look out for. A Trotn'ng Tragcdy RerLy was a bufc favourite in the Junction Handicap and when ha tuvned for home going well eight lengths ahead of the other it looked all over. He commmeed to roli in the straight and hung out, and then he broke badly. Before lie could be got going again the others wero ahead of him, but he came again and while h » just got up into second place he was nearly a length behind Margaret Wallace whose price was over a score. Guid Hairst again failed, although he did not get a good run. If ever a horse looked to have a l'ace won it was Realty. Marble Star is Solid Marble Star ran to the front early in the Hillsbro' Handicap and was never actually headed. Moko Girl ran up to him three furlongs from home and the pair then cleared out from the others, Moko Bells being the only one at all handy crossing the top. Over the last bit Moko Girl tired and Marble Star won comfortably to return a fine price. Moko Bells went only moderately and Windchat went a good race. Marble Star and Moko Girl are capable of going on with it.

Baclc to His Best Stormy Mack and Mazda were well clear of a warm favourite, Wee Machine with three furlongs to go in the Campbell Handicap, but they both tired and jWee Machine had little difficulty in heading off Stormy Mack half a furlong from home. Lady Amanda was not going very smoothly but she finished third, while Betterwin, Pedlar and Mazda performed fairly well without ever tlireatening danger. Wee Machine appears to have struck his best form at last. Walked In Brent Zolock left the mark smartly in the Remuera Handicap, and that was just the end of the race. He was eight lengths ahead at the end of two furlongs and it was a hopeless chase that the others had. Entering the straight for ihe final dash Brent Zolock was six Lmgths clear of a bunch headed by Kewpie's Triumph, Brentlight and Peter Pirate, and he was then eased to score most convinc- ; ' « ,

j ingly. Peter Pirate finished very fast i to get second ahead of Brentlight, | with Kewpie's Triumph, Real Girl and ! Little ' Guy next. The lastnamed h'ad every chance, but the winner tied the field up. He is a brilliant fellow once : he gets away from the barrier, at which his backers take a chance. He, paid a fine dividend. I i Realty Consistent j Backers were xight on the sp'ot in the Insulation Handicap, Realty, the favourite, beating the well backed Homeward. Jersey Thorpe tried to win all the way, and it was only half way up the straight the final time that he was caught by the dividend payers. Pukemiro and Hohora finished close up, but the first and second horses outclassed the others. Rolfe Audubon and Worthy Cause both went well and they may do better next time out. j Detailed results: — •GREENLANE HANDICAP ; Of £105. For trotters; miles. Limit. 3.48. j l—NELL VOLO, (Mr. F. J.
