ASPHALT-RUBBER ROADS
In many parts: of the world efforts are being directed toward the absorption of some of the surplus production of rubher, the carry-over toUnage of which is now assuming big proportions. Desjdte the low market price of crude rubher, it is still considered to he uneconomxc to use it for road surfacing in the form of sheet rubher, although in a few isolated ingtancds ruboed paving has been used with success. One of the most interesting developments is the reesnt iriventibh of a Dutchman, who has evolved, it is claimed, a noiseless non-skid surface for roads, The process involves the use of powdered rubber mixed with asphalt. It is reported that roads surfaced with the new preparation will be able to carry traffic within an hoUr of the application of the surfacing, and, although details have not yet been disclosed, it is stated that the working methods .are Simple.
