— By Telegraph — Copyrlght).

Rec. Oct. 28, 12.45 a.m. Perth, October 27. The visiting English cricketers commenced their matcb against the combined team at Perth to-day. England won the toss and elected to bat. Leyland went to McCabe in his secohd over. There were many changes in the bowling, Bradman, McCabe, Halcombe, Martin and Evans being tried, but with the exception of McCabe, they did not show much sting. The attendance was 11,000 and the gate receipts £883.

Play, in general, was slow but the fielding was relieved by the smart work of Bradman who returned marvellously, and made some excellent saves. Pataudi and Suteliffe were hoth solid. Suteliffe scored with attracti^e strokes all round the wicket and knocked up his 169 in 235 minutes. His tally included one six and 16 fours. Pataudi was particularly sound in his leg strokes and scored withodt apparent effort. His century was made in 180 minutes and included 11 fours. Hammond gave his usual forceful display, his def dnce being particularly sound. At times he came half way down the pitch to meet some balls. His footwork was beautiful to watch. Ames was not in sufficiently long to show his quality. McCabe was the best of the bowlers and was always treated with respect- The remainder of the local Jbowlers were badly pasted. The fielding wds gbod.
