Spring Dray Purchased The Rotorua' Borough Council on Wednesday night decided to purchase a spring dray for £21. The works committee reported' having sold the two old Ford trucks for £7. Girl Hikers We understand that the "hiking" craze has caught on in Tauranga (says the "Times). Two girls went from here to Rotorua by car on Saturday and started on Sunday morning to "hike" baek home. They reached Ngawaro that night and came on yesterday but' found a car very usef ul to finish off the journey of the last ten miles. Boxing Day Sports The publicity committee of the Rotorua AmateUr AthletiC and Cyeling Club appointed at the. management committee meeting on Tuesday evenihg, has been - empowered iriimediately to complete. arrangemeht for a special B'oxing Day meeting to be held at the Government Grounds. It is expected that many competitors from other clubs will be taking part.
Municipal Conference The Rotorua Borough Councii has set up a sub-committee to draw up a programme for the entertainment of delegates to the Municipal Conference, which meets in Rotorua in March, 1933. Hospital Road The road to King George V. Hospital again came under discussion at the meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council on Wednesday night. The appeal to the Health Department to give the mattel* attention has not, so far, borne fruit and it was decided again to point ont the bad condition of the road and emphasise that the council was prepared to assist in its improvement. Ana Hato Concert} With the ohject of raising funds for the relief of sufferers in the recent East Coast earthquake, Ana Hato, the famous Maori soprano has arranged a special Maori entertainment to be held in the Peerless Hall on Saturday evening. This new company, which is repres'entative of the Tuhourangi sub-tribe to which Ana Hato belongs, is one of the strongest Maori concert parties which has been assembled in the district. Ana Hato is, of course, the "star" of the programme but very many of the other artists are well known as outstanding Maori entertainers. Saturday evening's concert is intended as the first of the season's programme for the new company. Golfer's Success A Westport exchange states that the championship of the Westport Golf Club was won last week-end by J. Schadick, who defeated H. Lockey by the very comfortable margin of 11 up and 10 to play. Mr. Schadick is the brother of Miss E. Schadick, bf Rotorua and is the president of the Westport Club. Mr. Lockey .is wellknown to a number of Rotorua golf> 'ers and is known as- a New Zealand representative hoelcey player. Memento The Rotorua Borough Council has arranged to present each visitor in connection with the Municipal Conference, which is to be held here in March, with a small pair of pois, together with a ribbon -inscribed with the words: "Municipal Conference, Rotorua, 1933." The cost of these mementoS will be. approximately £6. Information Sought After dealing with the suggested affiliation of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club with the recently forined Waikato sub-centre and the possible advantage for purposes of inter-club competition, tbe executive of the club decided this week to secure more information be-for-e making a decision. 0
