SCOUT NEWS

"Scouter.")

ROTORUA No. 2 TROOP.

(Notes by

Despite^ the inclement weather on Friday 'evening, there "was a good muster at the usual weekly parade of the above troop , held in the school hall. After the usual routine, the troop spent a great portion of the evening endeavouring to master a number of troop cries. Led by the "haka leader, th'e troop worked itself into a state of wild 'excitement, which continued until various movements were mastered. . While the majority of the leaders rehearsed their "play" for the forthcoming concert, the rest of the troop continued competitions in games and scout work, each patrol bent on winning the committee's trophy, presented for the best all-round patrol. While on the subject of points and good turns, I should like to offer a brief explanation in regard to the award of points for good turns. This is a subject which has been discussed from time to time. A number of people have ventured to remark without good reason that this practice is not good. It might be thought at first that it would tend to make a boy priggish; but, as a matter of fact it has been found to have just the opposite effect. At any rate, it does a great deal to remind th'e boys to do their kind actions every day.
