THE WEATHER
The Govprnment meteorolofiist issued the following weather report and forecast Iast niffht: — General situation: A slight anticyclone is passi'ng. to the north of New Zealand, while a fresh depression has reached eastern Australia; barometers are abnormaliy low over the Tasman Sea and over the New Zealand area as a whole. Forecast: Winds light to moderate, variable at first with southeriies prevailing, but tending to northerly to-morrow. Weather: A few scattered showers still likely, principalls In the easter"n districts of the South Island, but elsewhere the weather should be fair with an improvement everywhere except in the west and south of the South Island. Following are Ihe barometer, maximum and minitnum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Sta' tion by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Barometer 29.658ins. Thermometer (max.) 60.7deg. Thermometer (min.) r. 53.6deg. Thermometer (min on grass) 45.9deg. Rainfall .... .... 0.35ins. . Bright Sunshine .... 0.6hrs.
