LATEST GERMAN METHODS. Sudden hailstorms have destroyed crops so constantly in Germany, near the Alps, that the country folk have organised numerous stations, from which rockets are fired into rain clouds, causing them to burst before they can turn into hail. Hail is caused by the swift driving unw:ards of harmless rain clouds so that the drops of water freeze. As rain invariably follows the firing of a rocket into the clouds, the German farmers are convinced they have hit upon the right idea. In any case, when the rockets are fired the whole village turns out to enjoy the spectacle.
