working conditions EMPLOYERS AND WORKERS AGREE UPON AWARD. jlIOLIDAY PERIOD REDUCED. At a meeting of licensed hotel workers and the employers, held today, presided over by Mr. W. Newton, Conciliation Commissioner, the terms of a proposed award were discussed and agreed to prior to submission to the Arbitration Court for ratification. It is proposed that the term of the agrement shall be one year. The minimum wagep agreed upon are as f ollows : — In hotel kitchens: Six or more hands. Chief cook, £4 10s; second cook, £3 4s; third cook, £2 2s 9d; all other workers, £2 Os 6d. Five hands: Chief cook, £4 7s; second eook> £3 ls 6d; third cook, £2 2s 3d; all other workers, £2 0s 6d. Four hands: Chief cook, £3 18s 6d; second cook, £2 13s; third cook, £2 2s 3d; all othel* workers, £2 Os 6d. Three hands: Chief cook, £3 8s; second cook, £2 4s 6d; all other workers, £2 0s 6d. Two hands: Chief cook, £2 13s; second cook, £2 2s 3d. One hand, £2 2s 3d. Other employees: Head waiter, £2 13 s; head waitress, £1 10s 9d; other waiters, £2 8s 9d; other waitresses, £1 7s 9d; housemaids, £1 7s 9d; pantrymen, £2 Qs 6d; pantrymaids, £1 7s 9d; barmen, £2 17s 6d; barjnaids, £2 15s; cellarmen, £2 17s 6d; porters, £2 2s 3d (night), £2 0s 6d (day); general hands required to assist in bar, £2 3s 6d; other general hands, £2 Os 6d (male), £1 15s (female). The hours of work for all workers are not to exceed 48 a week without . overtime payment, and must not be , more than 10 hours a day without j over-time. The annual holiday has ! heen altered from nine days to one i week.
