A FRIESIAN RECORD

A DALEFIELD COWS PROVES ON OF GREATEST IN COUNTRY. The highest milk and butter-fat records ever made bv a x riesian cow

on C.O.R. test in the Wairarapa district are those -of Tuannui Domino Agnes 4th, a pedigree Friesian cow tested during the past season by Mr. E. Knutson, of Dalefield. This cow yielded during her 365 days on test 27,305.11b milk and 927.551b fat. Besides being records for Wairarapa, these figures ara the.fourth hest for milk production and the twelfth best for butter-fat production for Friesians tested in the Dominion. Commencing her test at the age of 6yrs 248 days, Tuanui Domino Agnes 4th quickly commenced to mak-3 the foundation for a big record, and maintained a particularly high standard throughout her test.

That she is one of the greatest allround cows in New Zealand to-day is shown by the fact that before Tunanui Domino Agnes 4th was tested, she proved herself a cow of great type by winning the Friesian championship at the 1930 Wellington Winter Show, and the reserve championship at the 1930 Royal Show, while during the time she was on test she was adjudged not only the champion Friesian cow, but also tbs champion cow of all dairy breeds at the 1931 Wairarrapa Show. It is also worthy of note that Mr. Knutson's cow is the only Friesian cow in this Dominion who has recjjfivad; dhampionship mention at a Royal Show as well as having a record over 900.1b fat. Bred by Sir A. H. Russell, of Hastings, Tuanui Domino Agnes 4th was purchased when a two-year-old by Mr. Knutson for 13gns at a breeders' consignment sale at Carterton, held in May, 1927. American hlood-lines dominate the pedigree of this "bargain" cow, three of her grand-parents being imported from the United States, while the fourth grand-parent is Domino. 8th (Allah — Domino), a cow of pure Dutch blood whose sire was imported from New South Wales, and whose dam was one of the original imported to New Zealand from Holland.
