WAIKATO HUNT

PROTOMINT AND TRADESMAN CARRY OFF DOUBLE LORD AINTREE'S TWO WINS

(Special b'y

Cambridge, Moiluay. i Shocking weather heralded the : Waikato Hunt Club's annual meeting at Cambridge to-day, but after the third race the sky.cleared and for a while there was sunshine. The attendance was very good and the rac- •• ing interesting. The Members' Memorial went to Protomint, who again spread-eagled his field, while Tradesman easily accownted for the Bollard Memorial. A feature of the day was the dual win of the Hunting Song gelding, Lord Aintree, who won the Bardowie (second division) and the Bruntwood Hack paying sitrprisingly good prices each time. Royal England in winning the Hunters' Hurdles paid close on a third of a century. The tote put through £12,344 10s, compared with £12,212 last year, a drop of £1467 10s. Little Arch Wins Farmers The Farmers' Steeples went to Little Arch, but the race was robbed of interest when Ahiora ran across Sir Glamis and Pinto and ran them off at the first fence. Pinto was not persevered with, but Sir Glamis was taken back, but refused later on the journey. Lady Waimarie was first to show up and led Ironic, ICoewhiwhi, Miss Modern, Harvies Town, Maunga King and Little Arch. Ahiora ran to the front at the back but fell and left Lady Waimarie in charge, but she also tripped out and Miss Modern went up from Ironic and Koewhiwhi, Little Arch and Maunga King. Little Arch went on to lead from Ironic with Koewhiwhi in' third berth. They finished like that Maunga King being fourth, followed at intervals by Distress and Miss Modern. Harviestoun also got round. Royal England' s Surprise There was another boil-over when in the Hunters' Hurdles, the exThames horse, Royal England, after being prominent all the way just headed oif the Hikutaia gelding, Emancipation, with Mashoor in third place. Royal England was cast-off by the Winder stable after being backed heavily in flat races. Tapapa went out very fast and had a six length break on the field, followed by Carl Hertz, Emancipation, Royal England, Town Beauty, Absent, Mashoor and Sub-Editor. Tapapa eompounded after a mile and Carl Hertz and Sub-Editor were on terms from Royal England, Cargen Town, Beauty, Emancipation, Mashoor and Absent. Turning for home Sub-Editor led Royal England, Carl Hertz, Town Beauty, Mashoor and Emancipation. Royal England won by a length from Emancipation who came with a rush. Mashoor was third, followed by SubEditor, Town Beauty, CaxT Hertz, and Absent. Bardowie First Division to Booklaw Booklaw (£175) got well away in the First Division of the Bardowie, and stalled off a challenge from Lady Lulu to win by half a-length. Chateau made the early pace from Booklaw, Lady Lulu (£117 10s), Be yl j Latour, London. Searcher and Abbey Dream. Chateau and Booklaw went to the turn on terms, Booklaw j lasting best. Lady Lulu was second, j Chateau third, Beryl Latour fourth, followed by Abbey Dream, Kahu and j London. Lord Aintree at Last Lord Aintree (£01), who had been breaking watches on the tracks at last got his reward by winning the second division. Arawa Rose was slow to move and lost fully six leng- " ths. Lord Aintree showed the way to Scizanthus, Rekaraurau, Illuminelli, Consort and Welcome Lu. At the end of four furlongs Lord Aintree was with Scizanthus, Illuminelli and Keith Hall, these four being fully ten lengths ahead of Consort and the rest. Lord Aintree finished full of running, two lengths clear of Illuminelli with Master Nirval (£15 10s), who came very fast over the last 200 yards a length away, third. Keith Hall was fourth, the next being Arawa Rose (who finished fast under the whip), Welcome Lu, Consort and Last Lap. Protomint Duly Lands Made a favourite in a good betting race Protomint (£504), duly landed the Members' Memorial from Flying Prinee (£312), who was well suited by the conditions. Chromadyne was the early leader from Baroscope, Cruachan, Flying Prince, Protomint, Limeen, Sargon, Nassoclc and Antique. Round the back Chromadyne, Cruachan and Baroscope were on terms from Protomint, Limeen and Flying Prince with Antique next and Nassock ahead of Sargon who was wabbling. Protomint was first into the straight from Chromadyne and Baroscope and ran home an easy winner by three lengths from Flying

Prince, who came fast wide out. Limeen was third, Baroscope fourth, Cruachan, Chromadyne, Antique and Nassock following. Sargon pulled up very lame. No Trouble to Trouble To pun, it was no trouble to Trouble ( (£439 10s) to win the Hunt Cup for he went to the front and won pulling up by twelve lengths from Jon (£133) who tired and just heat Slump (£195 10s), by a head for second money after the latter had, with Cat-i-mes, made most of the running. Cat-i-mes and Slump struck the front early and in the first round established a good lead over Simeon, Jen, Mashoor and Absent, the last named losing his rider at the first fence of the double. In the second eircuit, Cat-i-mes lost his rider at the second fence of the double. Then the order was Slump, Jen, Trouble, Simeon together, followed by Mashoor, and Little Arch. Simeon made a faulty jump and Jen ran to the lead at the back and Slump and Trouble were on terms. Trouble moved up at the top and took charge from Jen at the straight entrance going on to win easily. Jen had a six length lead of Slump at the distance, but wilted and was just punched home by a head. Mashoor was fourth, with Little , Arch " the only other to finish. Koewhiwhi was pulled up. Double to Lord Aintree Lord Aintree (£144) landed the double when he just beat Limex who made up ground at the straight entrance wide out. There was a lot of trouble at the start and Lord. Aintree took charge, not being headed. Lord Aintree led Lucidus (a hot favourite carrying £523 10s), Moonfleet, Lady Lulu, Welcome Boy, Valpai, Great Britain and Senorita. Moonfleet ran up to second and on the home bend Lord Aintree was in front of Moonfleet, Welcome Boy, Valpai, Hiata and Lady Lulu. Lord Aintree won by a head from Limex, with Moonfleet third, Lady Lulu fourth. Then came Booklaw, Senorita, Holly Holm, Great Britain and Valpai. Despite his rise of 81b. Lord Aintree paid a fine diwie. Sub-Ed'itor Scores in Bracelet Pinto went out amid the cheers of the crowd and put a ten length break on the field for six furlongs where he blew up and finished last. When the Bracelet field went away to a good start Pinto led past the stand from Valsimon, Consort, SubEditor (£265 10s), Valpai and Maunga King. When Pinto stopped Rekaraurau took the lead from Consort, Maunga King, Sub-Editor, Royal England, Abbey Dream and Valsimon. Rekaraurau, Maunga, King Abbey Dream, Royal England and Consort were on terms at the straight entrance with Sub-Editor behind them. Sub-Editor came through to win by three-quarters of a length from Consort with Abbey Dream a head back, followed by Royal England, Maunga King, London, Rekaraurau and Valsimon. Tradesman All The Way Once Tradesman (£553 10s) hit the front it was all over in the Bollard Memorial, for he won by three lengths from Flying Prince (£84 10s) the Tirau horse, thus notching a second in the two main events. Tradesman led Miss Lorraine, Soloist, Valuat on, Persham, Chromadyne, Gay Lap, Cruachan, and Flying Prince, but at the top Gay Lap drew up and Chromadyne ran into third position. j 'Tradesman drew away and won comfortably and Flying Prince, who was last into the straight, topped off Gay Lap for second money by a neck. Chromadyne was fourth and Cruachan, Valuation, Miss Lorraine and Persham were in that order with Soloist a bad last.
