Smash at Ngongotaha At 7.30 last evening a bad motor smash oceurred about a quarter of a mile on the Rotorua side of Ngongotaha when two cars di-iven hy James Mun.ro of Ngongotaha, and . Riehard Mackie, of the Paeifie Forests, Tokoroa, collided on a hend during a heavy shower of rain. Mr. Munro's ear was very extensively damaged and the other also reeeived damage to the running hoard and I mudguards. Neither driver was inI jured. Early Campers The bad weather which prevailed over the week-end was most unpleasqpt for campers,. but early seasonal yisitors occupied ahout 25 allotments in the borongh camping ground on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Slips on RoadU The continuous downpour which drenched the distript over the weekend, brought down a npxpber of small slips in the Rotoma and Waimana Gorges on the Rotorua- WhakataneGpotiki road. With one exception, none of the falls ohstructed traffic, hut the largest which oceurred ahout halfway through the -Waimana Gorge, spread loose earth and debris over about five yards of road. The obstruetion required careful negotiation for ears without chains. Roads generally on this route, stood up to the rain well, although in the vicinity of Te Teko the surfaee was badly pot- . holed and rutted. The RotoruaAucklfind road showed more signs qf wear owing to the heavier traffic.
