WHAKATANE CLUB HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

The anual general meeting of the Whakatane Golf Club was helii in the borough chambers, the president, Mr. W. Clarlc, being in th*e chair. There was a good attendance of members. In presenting the report Mr. Clark stated that the opening of their own course had marked a red letter day in the club's history. The members who had initiated the movement to purchase the property were to be congratulated on their foresight. The course had stood the season admirably and much credit was due to the supervisor, Mr. Powdrell. Thanlcs were due to Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Spence and others who assisted. Messrs.' Pirini and Stubbs were thanked for their work in connection with the removal and re-erection of the clubhouse. The membership of the elub is 130. The golf ball this year was a highly sueeessful function. The appoint- ! ment of a greenkeeper-coach had been fully justified. The president wished to personally thank Mr. and Mrs. R. . Baker for their kindness and hospitality in allowing committee meetings to be held at their residence. Financial Position The treasurer, Mr. Suckling, pre■sented the balance sheet showing that the working account stood at £400 10s 6d, including subscriptions amounting to £282) ; maintenance expenses, £216, while further capital for developmental purposes for the year was £643 5s, making the total expenditure on the course to date, £1357. Mr. J. G. Gliff-McCulloch, in moving the adoption, congratulated the committee of the club on the manner in which the finances had been handled and of the good results obtained. He predicted the course ' would in time be equal to anything in New Zealand. Election of Officers The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — President, Mr. F. J. Reynolds; vice-president's, Messrs. T. A. Hogg and J. R. CliffMcCulloch; club capf-ain, Mr. S. Spence; secretary, Mr. F. Pitcaithley; treasurer, Mr. C. A. Suckling; committee, Messrs. Powdrell, Stubbs and Buddle; auditor, Mr. G. H. Reeves. Subscriptions Subscriptions were fixed the same as last year, men £3 10s, reducible to £3; ladies £2 10s, reducible to £2. It was decided to keep the links open for another month. Ladies' Meeting The lady members with Miss A. Black in the chair, met subsequent to the general meeting and appointed the following officers: — Secretary, Mrs. Harrison; committee, Mesdames Wadmore, Powdrell, Otley, Suckling, Giffney and Fraser. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee that players be divided into four grades those of handicaps 16 to 26 to be A grade, 26 to 36 B grade, 36 unearned handicaps to be C grade and the rest D grade. A special vote of thanks was passed to Miss A. Black and Miss F. Bell for their work in the club's interests.
