BRIGHTENING GAME
Wellington, Saturday. Nearly a score pf reps. of various cricket clubs in Wellington met last night to discuss methods for brighten-: ing the game, and making it more. attracvtive to the public. The concensus of opinion was that much could be done by starting matches on time, by the field qhanging over quickly, and ayoiding delays in the changing of bowlers. No motions were tabled, but those present agreed to do what they could towards getting the various suggestions put into operation. From the nature of the talk it appeared that starts of from ten minutes to twenf ty late were the rule rather than the exeeption, umpires joining in this qomplaint, as their instructions, which werq faithfully observed, were to be on hand at least ten minutes before the scheduled starting time. Among the suggestion were that umpires should notify the position of the. over when two balls had still to go, so that bowlers would be ready to take up, and any change could be effected without delay. It was also agreed that the umpire should, in the event of a left-handed batsman being at the batting end, anounce that fact, enabling the field to take up proper positions promptly.
