The unemployed, resenting the questionnaire subniitted to applicants for the dole, Organised several protest demonstrations, which developed into a riot at Paddington, where it is alleged inflamrnatory circulars were distributed and Communist speakers incited the mob. The police quelled the disturbance. Four arrests were made.. ' Mass meetings on the northern coalfields caused lively scenes, which threatened serious develppments, but after making a bonfirq of a large number of dole forms the Kurrie and Cessnock demonstrators quietened down.
