WELL KNOWN PUBLIC MAN CHARGED WITH FORGERY DOCUMENTS FALSIFIED

W angamai, Friday. Jahez William Mace Luxford, a member of the city council and other local bodies and a prominent business man, was eharged: (1) That on or about August 19, 1931, at Wanganui, he did make a false document hy forging the name of Ross and Glendinning to a Wanganui Teehnical College Board voucher, knowing* the same to he false, with intention that it should. be acted upon as genuine; (2) that on July 20, 1929, at Wanganui, he did make a false document by forging the name of Bromiley and Son, Ltd., Wanganui, to a fire board voucher, knowing the same to be false with intention that it should be acted upon as genuine; (3) that on August 24, 1926, he did eommit forgery in that he did procure Gladys Robinson to make a false document, viz., to receipt a Wanganui Fire Board voucher in the name of Ross and Glendinning and Co., knowing the same to he false, with intention that it should be acted upon as gen-

uine. Frederick Charles Atkinson, manager of the Wanganui braneh of Ross and Glendinning, produced a Teehnical College Board voucher aecompanied by a cheque for £52 13s ld. This was supported hy two invoices on Ross and Glendinning's stationery for £40 ls and £13 10s ld. The cheque was drawn on the Bank of New Zealand in favour of Ross and Glendining, and was signed by a member of the Teehnical Board. To the best of witness' knowledge his firm did not supply the goods to the board. Gladys Jones, clerlc to Messrs. Ross and Glendinning, said the signatures to the vouchers were not hers or those of any member of the staff. The case is proceeding.
