Good Prospects The dairy herds in the Ngongotaha district are reported to .be in excellent eondition as a result of the splendid pasture gro"wth this reason. In most eases farmers have increased their herds this year. Searching For Water Well-borers are at present at work in the Ngongotaha district in search of supplies of water for the coming season. In one or two cases it has been found that the water in existing bores has receded, necessitating re-horing. This is attributed to the recent earthquakes at Wairoa. • Donation to Clinic It was stated at the meeting of 'the Rotorua Dental Clinic committee on Monday evening that the Natjve Trust Board had decided to donate £5 to- • wards the upkeep pf the clinic. The donation was gratefully accepted by the committee, which at the present time is finding the upkeep of the clinic a hurden. Tribute to Legislator As a tribute to the memory of the late Mr. G. C. Black, M.P., the flag on the Rotorua Post Offic.e building was fiown at half-mast yesterday afternoon. Large Saies Considerable activity in the sale of ewes and lamhs is taking place from . the Ngongotaha district. Yesterday ; 15 trucks left the district hy rail. Postal Arrangements On Monday next, Labour Day, delivery of correspondence will not be made by the Rotorua Post Offiee and inward mails will not be sorted until 6 a.m. on Tuesday. However, on Saturday evening a general delivery of letters will be made over the eounter between 7 and 8 p.m. All outward mails on Monday will close at 7 a.m., and street receiving boxes will be cleared at 5.45 a.m. For the eonvenience of the public the telegraph offiee will be open from 9 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, but the money order and savings bank will be closed throughout the day. Fire Brigade Display At the Government Grounds on Labour Day, fire brigades from Tauranga, Te Puke, Whakatane, Opotiki and Rotorua, will meet in annual competition for the Chilton Cup, which' is for competition between Bay of Plenty brigades. In the afternoon a specially built shack will he set alight and a display of fire fighting given by the Rotorua brigade. In addition to the display, amateur cycle races will also be decided at intervals during the afternoon Allotting Boundaries A previous effort to divide senior Rugby teams in Rotorua by boundaries was mentioned at Monday's meeting of the Rotorua Rugby SubUnion. It was stated that the boundaries allotted resulted in one member of a well-known football family being debarred from his brother's team owing to the boundary line separating his bedroom from the others. Donations to Finances At Monday's meeting of the Rotorua Sub-Union, appreciation was expressed of the action of Mr. A, de Luen, a life member, and the Whaka Club in donating sums of money towards the assistance of the union. N.Z. Mare for U.S.A. Mr. Seton Qlway last evening despatched from Cambridge the Catmint — Hydales mare Phaola to America where she has heen bought for breeding purposes. Her full sister, Prodice, is under offer to an Australian sportsman. Phaola is a half-sister to Ammon Ra and the three-year old Prolyxo. The price is stated to have been very satisfactory. Golf Season Ending The official closing of the Rotorua Golf Club will be held on Monday (Labour Day). Play will he mixed foursomes, commeneing at 12 noon. Players are requested to choose their own partners and op}ionents. The prize-giving will take place after the completion of play. Spring time is tonic time.
