FEAR OF BOMBS

DANGER TO VATICAN IN CASE OF WAR. Rome, Monday. The question whether the Vatican conld remain neutral in a war in which Italy was engaged h'as been raised by the Papal authorities agreeing to dim the city's lights during the Italian air manoeuvres, which involved a mock raid on Rome. It is contended that if the Vatican dimmed its lights during a real raid it would be assisting the Italians by coneealing the Vatican City's whereabouts. It is argued that th'e correct poliey would he to burn the lights during a raid and plaee the onus of avoiding the dropping of bombs in neutral territory on the attackers. If the Vatican dimmed, it would be its own fault if a bomb fell on St. Peter's.
