HOOD REPAIRS
NEW METHOD OF CLEANING AYOIDS USE OF DRESSINGS. PATCHING T'ORN PARTS. j To clean a blaclc hood, first wash it ; thoroughly to remove dust, using soap : to take off and grease, as petrol ira- • pidly perishes the coating. Then jallow it to dry thoroughly. To polish, ; use any good brand of boot polish', j liberally applied and well rubbed ' in i with a brush. Allow it to stand for a j time, and then polish thoroughly with ; clean rag. This treatment is better : than most hoou dressings, as it gives : a softer and more natural-looking gloss, besides waterproofing the material and tending to prevent it from cracking when folded. Other kinds of hood material, most of the modern ones being of jthe "pepper-and-salt" type, are best renovated by vacuum cleaning or vigo- . rous brushing. The application of a dressing to a faded khaki hood is satisfaetory, both for waterproofing and appearance, if the hood is kept elect- : ed, but it nialces it too stiff for folding. The nse of a blaek dressing on a light hood is not usually satisfac- ' tory. Quite the neatest method of patching any hood is by the use of a tube patch stuck on the inside with rubber solution. Apply several coats of solution to the material, letting each coat dry.
