PLANTS THAT DON'T NEED WATER.
In time of drought and general water shortage it is useful to know which plants take harm if the soil dries out. Some plants show quickly the effect of water shortage, for instance most primulas, phlox, rudbeckia, heleium, spiraea, chrysanthemum, foxglove, delphinium, Solomon's seal, nicotiana, golden rod, Michaelmas daisy, dahlia, fuchsia, bedding begonias and rhododendron. These should be watered before oth'er plants. To ensure that the moisture gets down to the roots, sink flower pots, or empty tins punctured in several places, flush with the soilsurface close to the plants, and fill with water as necessary. By this method one can be sure that the roots absorb the water, and all waste is 'eliminated. On the other hand, some plants are able to defy drought. When rain falls, therefore, and the water supply is short, they need no attention from can or hose. Such drought-resisting plants are gaillardia, potentilla, pinlc, sedum, achilles, geum ,nasturtium, coreop(sis, centranthus ruber, heliantbemum, cistus, sempervivum, calendula, yucca, tritonia, tree lupin, Spanish broom and genista.
