AIDING THE DEAF

BRANCH OF HARD OF HEARING LEAGUE FORMED An appeal for support of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing was made .at' a public meeting in St. John's Hall, by the organising secretary, Mrs.' Hurd-Wood.. The chair was occupied by the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, and" there was a most encouraging attendance. Mrs. HurdWood addressed the meeting upon the lines of her speeclvat the Rotary Ciub.

and at the conclusion Dr. W. S. Wallis moved and Dr. L. A. Lewis seconded that "this meeting of citizens expresses its cordial sympathy with the aims and objects of the League for the Hard of Hearing and undertakes to make known the work of the league to - further. the present appeal for funds." In speaking to the motion, Dr. Wallis said the league had the support of the B.M.A. and he stressed the importance of the objects in view. Dr. Lewis thanked Mrs. Hurd-Wood for her eloquent appeal -and paid a tribute to the lecturer's success in bringing h'ome to the eommunity a realisation of the needs of those hard of hearing. The resolution was carried and the following committee set up: Mesdames E, Robertson, N. M. Keane, Miss French, the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson), Drs. Wallis and Lewis, with Miss French as convenor. The committee will have power to add to its members .and arrangements have been made to consider ways and means of raising .funds and enroling members.
