ORPHANS' CLUB

LADIES' NIGHT PROVES A POPULAR SUCCESS The Opotiki Orphans' Club held a ladies' evening in the Farmers' Soeial Rooms on Thursday. Mr. H. Roland (president) opened the evening by welcoming the ladies and expressed his pleasure at the excellent attendance. The following musical and elocutionary programme was given: — *' Orchestral selection; violin solo, Mr. K. Cohen (accompanied by Mrs. J" . Blaek) ; song, Mr. V. Elliott (accompanied by Mr. S. Rendalls) ; Prof essor Caskowiski and his band (Mr. A. Davies, Professor Caskowiski with Messrs. H. Simpson, C. Cave, S. Kelly, F. Fisher and T. Morton) gave a reducing item "Bend Down Sister," "He had Another Drinlc When the Ship went Down," "Eleven More Months and Ten More Days," "I'm Alone Because I Love You"; cornet solo, Mr, J. Parkinson (accompanied by Mr. W. Parkinson); "Ring up the Doetor" Cohen (Mr. A. Debreceny) ; Orphans' Quartette "Oft in the Stilly Night" .(Messrs. V. Elliott,H. Roland, E. Seville, H. Watson) with humorous songs as encore. Clarionette solo, Mr. A.. Shaw; Mr. H. Watson and chorus sang some sea shanties, which were twice encored; violin solo, Mr. . K. Cohen with three encores (accompanied by Mrs. Blaek) ; orchestral item by Mr. C. Bowles and followers. An excellent supper was served, after which the floor was cleared for j dancing, the orchestra,s of both Professor Caskowiski and Mr. Carter Bowles supplying the music. Mrs. A. Debreceny» on' hehalf- of the ladies, thanked Mr- Roland, and memhers of the Orphans' Club, for" tJ-e very fine entertaiumont they had proyided.
