DEER STALKER LOST IN ROUGH ROCKY VALLEY DOG CHAINED 16 DAYS

Hokitika; Friday. Constable Drummond and Mr. Bert Cropp returned s last night, having been away since Saturday. They found no sign of Albert John Collins, who paeked out on Saturday, September 23, from Koiterangi to the junction of the Whitcombe and Hokitika Rivers. The party found part of his ge'ar at a hut at Frew's Creek, also a dog tied up in poor condition. Apparentiy Gollings took a rifle after a deer above the timber line. A thorough search was made of the Whitcombe Valley, but no trace was found, No hope is held out of Collings being found alive. Another party will go out for a further search to-morrow. The police are of opinion that Collings reached his first camp on September 24. He left a dog chained there and set out for the next camp, five miles further back. There is nb evidenee that he reached the secon'd camp. The police released the dog at the first camp after it had been chaihed up for 16 days. The locality between the camps is rocky, precipitous and dangerous. The missing man's relations have not been traced.
