STRIKE AT COROMANDEL

Auckland, Friday. Rumours of a sensational gold strike near Coromandel were current in Auckland this evening, where it was reported that an old prospector, Mr. Sam Chapman, of Thames, had been suecessful in locating the old Tiki lead lost 28 years ago. It is reported that working on his own during an afternoon, Chapman took out a large quantity |of almost pure gold. The strike is stated to about 34 miles from Thames and seven or eight miles from Coromandel on the Mercury Bay Road. The Tiki lead is paril of the big Tokatea reef, one rf the richest gold-producing areas of the distriet.
