Fire Brigade Called Shortly before 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the Rotorua Fire Brigade received a call to suppress a ehimney which had caught aiight at No. 79 Haupapa Street occupied hy Miss Mactier. The outhreak was quickly under control, without damage heing sustained to the building. Holes Re-arranged Yesterday the sequence of the holes on the Motutara golf course was rearranged, the first tee now taking' the ■plaee of what was preyiously known as number eight. The second hole is riow number nine, after which the old sequence will be ohserved. This arrangement has heen found necessary ; to overcome the overcrowding which existed owing to the shortness of the previous number one hole. Catholic Ball In response to numerous requests for a repetition of the successful' ball held two months ago, the St. Michael's Church' Committee Has d'ecided to organise a plain and fahcy masquerafie hall to be held in the. Majestic Ballroom on Wednesday, Novemher 2. A specially augmeritied orchestra will supply the musie for the hall and a series of special novelty dances will he held, for which good prizes will he provided. Annual Dance Recital On Friday evening next, Octoher 21, the pupils of Miss Del Thompson will give another of their popular annual dance reeitals at the Majestie Theatre. The standard set hy Miss Thompson's pupils has creatad favourahle comments in past reeitals and this year the display should be no less successful. Secondary Scliool Sports At Hamilton last Saturday the first annual sports meeting of the Waikato secondary schools and Athletic Sports Association was held at Steele Park and eommanded good entries. In conversation with a "Post" representative the headmaster of the Rotorua High School Mr. W. G. Harwood, said that he had agreed to representations for competitors from Rotorua at the next m'eeting providing that the association arrange for some subsequent meeting to be held on the Rotorua school grounds. Basketball at Mamaku This morning two basketball teams from the Ngongotaha primary school will play matches against the Mamaku School at Mamaku. The Ngongotaha teams will leave by the 6.40 a.m. train and the games will he conclud'ed to allow of them returning home by the train arriving in Rotorua at 11.40 a.m. je Encouraging Maori Football. With a view to encouraging intercourse hetween the Maoris of the North and South Islands of New Zealand, a cup for competition among the Maoris has been donated by Ratana, says an exchange. It is known as the rtatana Treaty of Waitangi Cup, and is at present held by the Kaikohe Maori Rugby team. This is the first year in which the cup has been competed for. It was first held by Hawke's Bay Natives, but Ratana, With a view to 'encouraging riorthern Natives, redonated it, and the Kaikohe team have held it against all comers. A team of Northern Wairoa Maoris is heing picked hy Mr. L. W. Parore to compete for the cup early next month. It is one of the conditions of the competition that the challengers for the cup shall he entertained in Maori fashion hy the holders of the cup.
