CHINESE LAUNDRY . ALLEGED CONDUCT OF A PAKAPOO BANIC EUROPEANS FINED

Auckland, Friday. A ChineSe laundry in Pitt Street, which the police allege was being used as a garning house, was raided by detectives at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The police exeeuted a search warrant and arrested a Chinese and five Europeans who were later charged with breaehcs of the Gaming Act. The raiding party had no difficulty in gaining entrance to the prernises as the front door was open. When the police entered, they allegedly found four Europeans engaged in 'marking palcapoo ticlcets. Tho Chinese was on the other side of the table and the fifth European entered while the police were there. The police seized papers which it is alleged were used in connection with a pakapoo bank. Later in the afternoon, Lum Ming, a Chinese, and the five Europeans appeared before Mr. McICeen, S.M. Lum Ming pleaded not guilty to a charge. of keeping a common gaming house and was rernanded for trial. The other defendants pleaded guilty to , cliarges of being found unlawfully on prernises used as a common gaming house and were each fined £1.
