ALL MEMBERS OF ENGINEERS' UNION INVOLVED IN DECISION "PRE CIPIT ATE & ILL-ADVISED"
-By Telegraph — Copyrlght).
Wellington, Thursday,. A decision to strike forthwith is reported to have been made hy workers in the engineering trade at a meeting held in the Trades Hall to'day. It is understood that the decision arose from a stop-work meeting of the employees of the. Wellington Patent Slip Company when notice of a reduction in wages was posted this morning. This, it is reported, was followed later by a general meeting of unionists at the Trades Hall. It is understood that the decision to strike was carried by a substantial majority, and that members of the Amalgamated Engineers' Union, who are. affected, will not report for duty to-morrow morning. Interviewed, a representative of the employers said that the men's action was precipitate and ill-advised especially as negotiations in the Conciliation Council were still open. Many members of the union were out of work at the present time. and those who had jobs would lose the most by the strike.
