Auckland, Thursday. When an appllcation was made to-day for bail for George Frederisk Hewer (39), descrihed as a medical practitioner, who is in custody on a charge of unlawfully using an iristrument, it was strohgly opposed by the police. 'Detective-Sergeant Kelly said an information had been Iaid against Hewer* on'a charge "of murdering a woman's child, which died a day after birth. ' The JVIagistrate said he would consider the application when He- I wer was formailly charged with murder next week.
