Shopping Competition Winners Winners in the "Morning Post's" free'gift shopping competition for last week were, Mr. McGinley and Mrs. Tyler. One gift was unclaimed. "No Exit" Road The Works Committee of the Rotorua Borough Council has advocated the erection of a "no exit" sign at the entrance to Meade Street, as attention has been drawn to tbe" "f|ct that many motorists turn up that st'reet under the impression that ]' it gives direct access to Tryon Streej;. Improved Crossings V/anted The Rotorua Borough Council has approaehed the Railway Department with a view to having improvements made to the railway crossings at Pukuatua and Ranolf Streets. Band to Play in Streets The Rotorua Borough Council adopted a recommendation by the Publicity and Amusement Committee that the band be requested to play in the streets on alternate Saturday ev'enings between 7.30 and 8 p.m. Unique Tulip A potted tulip of exceptional size has been grown by Mr. E. E. Harvey at the Grand Hotel, and for its measurements is considered to be unique. The total length of the stem and flower is 2ft 2iins. Sunejay Band Recital Considerable interest is being attracted by the Munieipal Band recital to be held in the Majestie Theatre next Sunday evening. The objects of the recital, the Mayor's earthquake relief fund and the Rotorua relief fund, are well worthy of support, ahd will provide patrons with an opportunity of supporting a very deserving cause and at the same time enjoying and exeellent musical entertainment. Matches at Arawa Park Two strong Rugby teams will meel at Arawa Park to-morrow afternoon,, when the Whaka Cluh, winners of the Rotorua championship, will meet Te Teko. In addition a ladies' hockey match between the Taniwha Club and a Te Teko team will be played as a curtain-raiser, and both games should be a fitting conclusion to tbe season. In the evening an offieial presentation of trophies will be mado at a banquet at Whakarewarewa. Cemetery Soldiers' Plot The Rotorua Borough Council has reeeived advice from the under-secre-tary, Internal Affairs Pepartment, that the district engineer, Public Works Department, Tauranga, has been authorised to have all the necessary work carried out on the new soldiers' plot at the Rotorua Cemetery. This will consist of levelling the plot, placing a concrete kerb round it and concrete slabs over all the present occupied plots. Whakarewarewa Telephone The Rotorua Borough Council has decided that on condition that £he Whakarewarewa Corporation provide a site, pay all charges for the use of the telephone and allow the public the use of the telephone free of charge, the council supply a telephone hox to house the telephone. If the corporation is not prepared to make the telephone available. to the general public, they should be eharged a rental for the box to cover the interest, sinking fund and repairs to same. Preparing for Cricket Preparation for the cricket season is now in full swing and most clubs are practising assiduously. At the Government grounds at 4.45 o'clock this afternoon, the Albion Club will hold its second practice, while on Saturday afternoon the cluh will play a friendly' match against the Old Boys' tearn.
