SHEER VANDALISM
Though most Rotorua folk have a proper civic pride there are, apparently, some to 'whom the beauties of their town make little or no appeal. Herewini Street has been noted for the magnificent display of rhododendron blossoms in'previous years and some citizens have gone to a lot of trouble to cultivate them. On Friday two children were seen deliberately destroying the buds on six bushes and throwing them either at one another or on the ground. In another case Mr. Parata, on Whaka Road, had gone to a lot of trouble to beautify the frontage of his section and had planted out a large number of pansies in flower borders around ornamental trees. On Friday night the whole lqt were stolen. The mentality of the perpetrators of these acts is hard to understand, but in the case of the children teachers or parents might make investigations whilst the prompt use of a stockwhip in the case of the vandalism at Whaka Road would probably make a more fitting appeal than mere words. In any case there is no doubt that there is someone of a definitely destructive temperament at large who will meet a very warm reception if caught doing any more acts of this type.
