STRIKE CALLED INDUSTRIAL TROUBLE IN HAWKES BAY AREA WATERSIDERS ALSO OUT

Hastings, Monday. A freezing workers' "strike" commenced in Hawkes Bay and extended also to watersiders at Napier, who in sympathy with the freezing workers, to-day declined to handle meat intended for shipment by the Tekoa and the Raranga, but they continued work on other produce. At Tomoana worlcs this morning, unionists made no appearance, but at Whakatu, members of a different union, not affiliated with the main New Zealand union, were prepared to j work as usual, but operations had to I cease on aecount of the watersiders' | attitude. j A meeting* of shearers at Hastings resolved as a result of the rise in the price of wool, and the improved outloqk, that the rates for shearing be not less than 21/- per 10Q, and corresponding rates for shed hands.
