WARO MINE

(Press. Assn.—

" WITHDRAWAL OF PUMPS THREATENS OTHER WORKINGS

-By' Telegrj-.p"h — Cccy.rlgM)

Whangarei, Saturday, As a result of the Unemployment Board's decision not to assist in the purchasing of a pumping plant thev Vfaro mine at Hikurangi is being abandoned. A start was made to withdraw the pumps this morning. There is a grave fear that the flooding of the Waro mine will soon render the Hikurangi Coal Company's mine unwprkable as the fiood waters will be beyond the company's capacity to keep down. Over 1200 people are entirely dependent upon the mining industry, the collapse of which would mean a big loss to the large district.
