At a conference between the railway companies and the unions, the former proposed ap all-round ten per cent. reduction in wages and salaries to replace the deductions award in March, 1931, of 2 h per cent. to those receiving qnder £2 10s and five per cent. to those repeiving over. The new minimum rate for casual workers is 38s. The conditions of service are untouched. The conference adjourned to allow consideration of proposals by the executive.
